STUDENT-FIRST TEACHING

At Calgary Academy, it’s all about the kids. Our students need your very best, so we’re passionately committed to helping you give it. Small class sizes allow you to build authentic relationships with your students, and their academic journey is mapped out each year by an individual program plan. The IPP will help guide your lesson planning, delivery and will enable you to tailor your instruction to your students’ unique learning needs.

MENTORSHIP

We don’t want or expect you to become an expert in a day. That’s why all new staff members are paired with a knowledgeable mentor for their first year. This usually occurs in a team teaching environment in a shared classroom, allowing fulltime collaboration, feedback and development. Our teachers were all mentees once, and they have a genuine desire to set you up for success and share with you the CA way. You’ll see our culture, behaviours and attitudes in action, allowing you to develop your skills faster and more effectively.

Ongoing learning

We see as much potential in our staff as we do our students. We’re dedicated to empowering you with the skills and tools you need to support your students. That’s why we have extensive summer training, a full-time Instructional Coach, customized professional development throughout the year, and weekly new staff training. At CA you are always supported and encouraged to reach your full potential.

Calgary Academy Parents’ Association (CAPA) Coordinator, Part-Time

Your Role

At Calgary Academy, we embrace two ethos: we are all learners, and students are the centre of everything we do. Those ethos will directly apply to the day-to-day operation for the Part-Time Calgary Academy Parents’ Association (CAPA) Coordinator. CAPA bursaries strive to provide financial support for students with demonstrated financial need. Since 1986, CAPA has raised more than $4 million for the CAPA bursary fund, and the successful candidate will continue that work.

The successful candidate will need to be highly organized, a great communicator, and able to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines. Compliance and attention to detail are crucial to success in this role, and you’ll know that success for you means helping a student and their family get access to the education they need.

Responsibilities

Manage 12-14 bingos a month, ensuring each bingo is fully staffed
Coordinate casino fundraising night
Coordinate annual gaming audits
Finalize annual bursary awards
Attend AGLC and Bingo Alberta meetings, as needed
Manage monthly deposit and bank requisitions
Manage society paperwork and all GST rebate documentation
Facilitate annual Calgary Academy Parents’ Association annual general meeting each October
Coordinate annual T4As for all bursary families
Attend CAPA meetings and ensure motions and votes regarding bingos and casinos occur and are documented in a timely manner
Manage and coordinate volunteers to ensure work is distributed fairly among the families

Who You Are

This role requires some evening and weekend work, as well as some travel
A highly organized, details-oriented mindset capable of managing multiple projects
A skilled communicator, able empathize with bursary families and rally volunteers
Valid driver’s license and access to dependable vehicle for work travel is essential
Fluency in English
Documented positive outcome of a current Criminal and Vulnerable Sector Record Check

Salary and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary, benefit package and professional development opportunities. This role adheres to the school winter and spring holiday schedule, and a modified summer break, returning the first week in August.
