About the Role
The role of Educational Assistant at Calgary Academy is focused on providing individualized learning opportunities for students, particularly those in grades 9-12, with complex learning profiles.
Highlights of Key Responsibilities
- Work one-on-one with students: Provide personalized support to students in students in grades 9-12 to help them achieve their academic and executive function goals.
- Collaborate with teaching staff: Work closely with teachers to understand students’ learning profiles and apply appropriate teaching strategies and interventions.
- Create a safe and nurturing environment: Foster an environment where all students feel safe, connected, and cared for, encouraging them to take risks and actively participate in their learning.
- Tailor learning experiences: Take into account students’ prior learning, needs, and interests when designing educational experiences.
- Build strong relationships: Develop meaningful relationships with the students under your care to provide effective support.
- Set and track goals: Work with students to set academic and personal development goals to support their success.
Qualifications
- Completion of a recognized post-secondary certificate or vocational certificate in childcare/development or behavior management.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of prior experience working with complex learners, especially in grades 9-12.
- Demonstrates qualities such as warmth, respect, enthusiasm, patience, kindness, and empathy.
- Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Shows evidence of problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Has an orientation for lifelong learning and critical thinking.
- Effectively manages stress, is flexible, and can adapt quickly to changing situations.
