Multimedia helps students learn about digital citizenship while building their design skills. This program offers a rare opportunity for students in Grades K–12 to participate.
Course Overview
Multimedia is a K–12 program where students explore digital design, media literacy and ethical digital citizenship. We explore an array of programs designed to build students’ technology skills, while also exploring the elements and principles of graphic design.
Learning by Grade Level
Grades K–3
Visual arts is a semester-long program that integrates curriculum from both art and multimedia. During the semester-long course, students will explore several different art-making techniques, mediums and methods, while focusing primarily on exploratory play and basic skill building.
Students work with mediums like tempera paint, clay, pencil crayons, markers, print-making, and digital art-making tools like Tinkercad to create 3D prints.
Grades 4–6
In Grades 4-6, students focus on building digital literacy skills through typing and mouse practice activities, as well as exploring a variety of digital art-making programs. Students explore photo manipulation, vinyl decal design and 3D printing.
Grades 7–9
Multimedia expands for Grades 7–9 students, where they are introduced to both Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. Using this industry-standard software allows students to focus on critical thinking and problem-solving through the digital design process. The skills learned in multimedia 9 support learners taking future multimedia courses.
Grades 10–12
In multimedia, students explore various media and techniques to communicate personal ideas in creative ways. Students achieve this by developing conceptual and technical skills in graphic design and illustration, typography, and printing and branding.
As students practice digital technology used by industry professionals and creatives, they are encouraged to incorporate personal interests and creative styles into various projects. Students will focus primarily on building technical skills, developing a comprehensive understanding of the elements and principles of design and creating both digital and physical objects for a personal design portfolio.
