To further support this practice, Calgary Academy is looking for a Wellness Coach to join our Learning Team on a Term Contract from August 24, 2023 – August 21, 2025. This role will be working towards the goals of a research grant awarded to Calgary Academy to implement mental health and well-being initiatives for students, staff, and the greater Calgary Academy community.
The Wellness Coach will foster collaboration and engagement and empower all partners in the school community to enable each learner to achieve their potential. This role will oversee all aspects of the MindUp for Life Program, including program oversight, management, and accountability. The Wellness Coach will support K-9 teachers with classroom implementation of Open Parachute, which will be led by classroom teachers.
Highlights of Key Responsibilities
- Lead the classroom implementation of the MindUp for Life program at Calgary Academy for Grades K-8.
- Support teachers with classroom implementation of Open Parachute for Grades 9-12.
- Conduct regular check-ins with classroom teachers for generalized application of MindUp skills.
- Troubleshoot and support teachers with program implementation challenges.
- Liaise with the Research & Innovation Team and School Leadership Team to ensure effectiveness of an iterative process for MindUp implementation.
- Coordinate the divisional scheduling of MindUp in consultation with the School Leadership Team.
- Support the design and delivery of information sessions for families to advance their understanding of wellness, and mental health inclusive of the MindUp for Life program.
- Collaborate on the communication to stakeholders about the implementation of programming and supports for increasing wellbeing in the home.
- Plan and implement school-wide health awareness events in collaboration with leadership and Director of Research & Innovation.
- Assist the Director of Research & Innovation in monitoring compliance of grant rules, regulations and reporting requirements.
- Support the Research Assistant in gathering and securing the necessary process and outcome data used to evaluate the impact of school-based initiatives including MindUp for Life and Open Parachute.
- Develop recommendations and write reports for use by leadership in the development, implementation and delivery of wellness programs.
Qualifications
- Minimum of three years of demonstrated success working with students in an educational context.
- Experience with program facilitation and training.
- Possess MindUp for Life certification or willingness to obtain.
- 2+ years of post-secondary education in a related field.
- Experience or background in Social Emotional Learning/Mental Health/Wellbeing is an asset.
- Trauma Informed Certification, Current Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM), Suicide Intervention (ASIST) are an asset.
- Strong abilities for problem-solving, collaboration and communication (verbal and written) skills.
- Demonstrates warmth, respect, and enthusiasm, patience, kindness, and empathy.
- Positive outcome of a current Criminal Record Check, inclusive of Vulnerable Sectors Check.
