About the Role

The primary responsibility of the Assessment Lead role is to work collaboratively with colleagues in providing leadership, coaching and support in assessment to instructional staff. In addition to advancing the Calgary Academy learning model and outcomes in the Calgary Academy strategic plan, the role also includes taking the findings from research and community feedback to inform the assessment work at CA.

This position requires a valid Alberta Teaching Certificate or Interim Alberta Teaching Certificate and a positive outcome on a current Criminal Record Check, inclusive of Vulnerable Sector.

Highlights of Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with educators to support evidence informed practice with assessment.
  • Lead the implementation of outcomes-based assessment at CA.
  • Work collaboratively, flexibly and adaptively, as part of a team to align literacy, numeracy and instructional design practices in the area of assessment.
  • Support leaders and teachers to implement the most effective and sustainable assessment practices within instructional design.
  • Working extensively with CA staff through large and small group professional learning, in-class demonstration, coaching and mentoring and supporting the development of staff assessment capacity.
  • Planning and leading professional learning sessions as required.
  • Strong understanding of curriculum, pedagogy and assessment is required.
  • Collaborate on the prototyping and development of progress reporting systems.
  • Collaborate with Agile Team Leads, Assessment Lead, Numeracy and Literacy Leads to support instructional practice and coherence within each grade level.
  • Attend and actively participate in regular leadership meetings with the Assistant Principals, Director’s of Learning, the Principal and ATLs.


  • A Bachelor of Education Degree with 5+ years of Teaching experience, specific experience.
  • Knowledge to demonstrate and apply a solid understanding of learning theory, strategies, principles and techniques as well as instructional design models.
  • Knowledge of best practice research and literature.
  • Application of theory into classroom practice.
  • Proven ability to provide leadership and mentorship to adults.
  • Strong understanding of curriculum, pedagogy and assessment is required.
  • Proven ability to provide leadership and mentorship to adults.
  • Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate.
